Margaret May Hall Cormier

August 12, 1924 - June 21, 2017

CORMIER, Margaret May – of Markdale passed peacefully with her loving family present, at the Grey Gables Nursing Home in Markdale on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 in her 93 yr.  May was predeceased by her loving husbands Gordon Hall and Al Cormier, and by her son Robert Hall. She is survived by her devoted children Shirley Torrie of Strathaven, Nancy Luckhardt (Jim) of Chatsworth, and Patti Hall (Doug) of Owen Sound, Steven Hall (Dinda) of Jakarta Indonesia,  Jim Hall (Wanda) of Rocky Mountain House, Scott Hall (Wanvisa) of Thailand.  Lovingly remembered by daughters-in-law Nancy Hall, Fran Hall and son-in-law Terry McComb. May is predeceased by her siblings Lorne Hammell (Norma), Roy (Lily) Hammell, her son-in-law Alex Torrie and parents Harry and Ethel Hammell. Adoring grandma to fifteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her friend Marie Hardyman.

May was a woman with immense inner strength, a contagious sense of humour: one liners, who lived her life exceptionally well every day. While raising seven children on the farm during meager times, May learned how to stretch a dollar; her favourite bargains from second hand stores, hand sewn clothing, dresses made from drapes, homemade soups and fresh baked breads and for school lunches, bean sandwiches. She would always remind us when times were tough that there were people worse off than us. Her sewing talents would go on to include graduation outfits and wedding dresses.  May was self-taught and would master painting and creating porcelain dolls, silver jewelry with turquoise, and ceramics.

May’s children described her as always being a lady; well dressed, hair and makeup always glamorous with ” her best foot forward.”  She had a great sense of adventure which in later years would lead her to Arizona, across the U.S., Canada and New Zealand and various romantic cruises. She would go to Mexico every year where she had many friends and was involved in local charities. May loved to dance, especially square dancing, which included a TV spot on Circle 8 Ranch. Her Realtor's license would provide an opportunity to buy, renovate and sell 5 family homes.  She was a protective, devoted friend to many and especially loved teaching her grandchildren how to play Mexican Dominoes, Cribbage and Euchre. A loving grandmother and great grandmother ; she enjoyed playing games and telling stories of her travels. She will be dearly missed!

A Funeral Service for May Hall Cormier will be held at the GARAFRAXA HILL FUNERAL HOME, Chatsworth, on Monday, June 26, at 12:00 p.m., with a visitation one hour prior to the service, pastor Michael Henkel officiating.  Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Funeral Home reception area following the service.
