Alan Wallace

February 18, 1951 - February 8, 2018

WALLACE- Alan Frederick Wallace of Walters Falls passed suddenly at his residence on February 8th , 2018  in his 67th year. He was predeceased by the love of his life, Joan Dorothy Emmaline Wallace (Matthews). Alan is survived by his loving brother James (Shirley) Wallace of  Chatsworth and sister Susan Steel (Steve Kessler) of Timmins. Fondly remembered by Bob Henderson, of Owen Sound, Thomas Henderson (Graham Selkirk) of Montreal and David Henderson (Julie) of Chatsworth, and their families, especially grandchildren Olivia, Cameron and Robert. Alan will be forever cherished by his nieces and nephews: Taraleigh Wallace, Dan Wallace, Oscar (Amanda) Steel, Rachel Steel and Rosalind Steel.  Alan was predeceased by his parents Fred and Alice Wallace (Hallman) and infant sister Heather.

Alan will always be remembered as a kind and gentle soul. Many in the area will know him from his 49 year career, starting in 1968, as a salesman and bookkeeper at Hallman Lumber in Walter's Falls. He was very talented musically, playing both the violin and piano, and was an accomplished vocalist as well. Under this quiet facade though, was also a passion for things fast, especially his Chevys; a Z28, an SS and even a modified retired police cruiser, all of which left their marks on the local asphalt. Along with drag racing, his other favourite sport was hunting. He especially enjoyed the annual deer hunt with friends, including Black Lab Maggie or Brittany Spaniel Timmy, and he would also search out the local game of rabbits, partridge, ducks and groundhogs. Alan was a talented marksman and in 1980 he won the Canadian Trap Shooting Championship. In the community, Alan was an active church goer and was a 23 year member of the Chatsworth Legion, including serving on the executive for nearly a decade. It was at the Legion where he met his beloved Joan. Anyone who knew Alan knows that his years with her were the best of his life, and her passing left an unquenchable hole in his heart. Quiet times would see him woodworking or lost in the pages of a good book, or crossword.  Dependable, shy, and quiet, Alan was “one of the good guys”.

Visitation will be held at the GARAFRAXA HILL FUNERAL HOME, Chatsworth, on Tuesday, February 13 2018, from 6:00 – 9:00 pm. A funeral service  for Alan Wallace will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 14 2018, at 12:00 pm, with visitation one hour prior to service.
