On Saturday May 6, 2023 our beloved Jim passed away peacefully at home.  He will be honored and dearly missed by his wife and best friend Laura, children Corinne (Lawrence), Deborah (Greg) and Kevin (Kristina), grandchildren Cayda, Aliya, (Sean) and Wilson, brothers-in law Paul (Marg), Greg (Anne) nieces Stacey, Stephanie, nephews Mark (Carrie), Mike (Danessa) and great niece Liliana. He was predeceased by his sister Wendy and brother Graham.

 

Jim was born in Toronto and grew up in Vancouver, excelling in sports - especially basketball.     As a leader he was named Canada’s Outstanding Air Cadet Officer.

 

After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Commerce, Jim joined Imperial Oil Limited’s Marketing Department.  He spent many rewarding years with the company and greatly appreciated the opportunity it gave him to see so much of this great country.

 

In retirement, Jim was able to expand his travels and loved being able to explore so many different parts of the world.  He volunteered locally, including as Chair of the Billy Bishop Museum, and supported the Shaw Festival. He was an avid sports fan and loved to attend local Owen Sound Attack hockey games, Blue Jays and Raptors games, and of course the Maple Leafs.

 

Laura and Jim spent many enjoyable summers cottaging with family on Lake Manitouwabing. One of Jim’s many gifts was an innate mechanical sense.  He rebuilt his Grandfather’s Amberola at age eight and throughout his life was everyone’s go-to-guy to fix anything. This and his warm and happy nature made him much beloved by all in the Ferguson and Wainwright clans.
