Eunice Wanda Alexandria (Cook) Preston

(nee Givens)

April 8, 1930 - December 14, 2022

The family of Eunice (Cook) Preston sadly announce her passing, peacefully at her Holland Centre home, on Wednesday December 14, 2022, at the age of 92. Beloved wife of the late Llewellyn John Cook, who predeceased her in 1967, and James Leo Preston, who predeceased her in 1993. Loving mother of Melanie Jean Barclay (Bill) of Owen Sound, Marsha Gayle Wheildon (Gerry) of Owen Sound, Leah Alexandria Legate (Bill) of Holland Centre, and Kari Ann Rivest (Tom) of Phelpston. Proud grandmother of Jennifer (Stacey), Josh (Tabatha), Emily (Corey), Ashley, Megan (Michael), Claire and Ella. Great-grandma of Kasiah, Connor, Cattch, Antonio, Brody, Vittoria, Blake, and Alessandro. She is survived by her brother Gregory Givens, and sister-in-law Marjorie Givens. Dear friend of Kim Pearce and Marlene Walker. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Alexander McCullough and Jean Opal Givens (nee McFarlane), siblings Yvonne Wiles (Vern) and Donald Givens.

Eunice’s love of the farm where she was born and raised never left her and the happy memories of all the people who lived there. From her upbringing, she lived life through common sense, being strong-willed, and hard working. In her younger years she was quite the softball pitcher and enjoyed many winters skating on the pond at the farm. Her greatest passion was sewing, baking, being outdoors in her vegetable and flower gardens, and her huge raspberry patch. She so loved animals but dogs had a special place in her heart. She loved her puppies and thoroughly enjoyed when grand puppies came to visit. Her incredible memory brought about many stories of relatives and the villagers of Holland Centre.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. Spring interment at St. Mark's Cemetery, Holland Centre. If desired, donations to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter would be appreciated. Sincere thanks to Paramed (Cindy and Wendy), Sandra Belbeck and the nurses at South East Grey Community Health Centre in Markdale, HCSS, and IDA Pharmacy Markdale (especially Dan), who all provided wonderful support and care.
