Our thoughts and prayers to the McKay family as John Paul will truly be missed. I worked with JP for many years at CN and at Via as it was always a pleasure and never a dull moment along with all the memories. Thank you JP.

Having known Paul throughout his many years at via rail, I was shocked to hear of his passing and send my deepest condolences to his family whom he always spoke so highly of. Although we only worked together a few times, we saw each other on the Montreal trains we both worked. I will remember him as a gentleman and very professional as a locomotive engineer.

Both Jason and I are saddened to hear of this news. We met both Paul and Jean when our family bought their farm in October 2020. He was such a kind and caring man. We will be forever grateful for both of their kind and caring hearts. Thinking of their family at this difficult time. Jason and Bren Dykxhoorn

I was very sorry to learn of Paul’s (as I knew him) death. We met up at CN, then Via, over the years. He was always good-humoured and easy-going and a very good engineer. He was respected by everyone. It was a real measure of Paul’s esteem that in all his many years on the railway I never heard anything but good said of him. He will truly be missed by many. My sincere sympathy to Jean and all the family. John Mitchell

In Memory of a Fellow Railroader I was saddened to hear of Paul’s passing, a fine and respected retired CN and VIA engineer. Despite never having the opportunity to work together on the road, Paul and I have had many conversations in the bullpen, parking lot , crew van and deadhead coaches over the years. I will always remember Paul’s calm, gentle, and professional demeanour — he was a man who carried himself with quiet confidence and humility. A knowledgeable engineer and a true gentleman. His passing will be felt deeply among those who had the privilege to have known him. My condolences to all those who loved him.
