Willard Clare Foster
February 8, 1945 - December 22, 2025

The family of Willard Foster of Markdale, sadly announce his peaceful passing at Summit Place in Owen Sound, on Monday, December 22, 2025, at age 80. Beloved husband of 54 years to Mora Phyllis Foster (nee Walls). Dear father of Jennifer Foster Reidl (Hans Reidl) of Waterloo and David Willard Foster (Andrea Donnan) of Ottawa. Adoring grandpa of Amber and Brooke Reidl. Willard is survived by his siblings Keith Foster (Mary), David Foster (Wendy), and Mary Jean McDougall (Peter). Also mourning his loss are his in-laws Glenda Maidla, Marilyn Cosgrove (Roger), Matt Walls (Cathy), Terry Walls (Cindy), and Gary Walls (Valerie). Predeceased by his parents Clare and Eva Foster (nee Hill), and his in-laws Walter and Phyllis Walls (nee Cameron), Janie Walls and John Walls. Willard will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, former students, and many friends in the community.

Willard was deeply rooted in the Markdale area, where he was born, raised, and where he chose to spend his entire adult life. He was proud of those roots, proud of his community, and committed to serving it in ways that left a lasting mark. For 52 years, Willard devoted himself to education, teaching and serving as principal in schools throughout the region, including Markdale, Flesherton, Dundalk, Osprey, and Meaford. Generations of students, staff, and families felt the impact of his leadership, fairness, and genuine care for people.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date. The family wish to express their sincere thanks to the Alzheimer Society and the staff at Summit Place for the outstanding comfort, care and support extended to Willard over the past few years.
