Johanna Godefrida-Maria Pountney

Died: November 30, 2016

Pountney, Johanna Godefrida-Maria – Of Chatsworth, passed away peacefully, in  Owen Sound, on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 aged 84 years young. Survived by her dear husband Doug Pountney. Loving mother of Nancy Coppes of Edmonton, and David (Nicole) Coppes of Kentucky. Devoted grandmother to Nathan, Nicholas, Rachel, Hannah, Nigel and Chloe.  Also survived by four brothers and four sisters and their families, all of The Netherlands.

Johanna was born in The Netherlands and moved to Canada at age 22. She was an accomplished seamstress and became division manager at Sears Drapery Department before starting her own drapery business. Johanna adored her children and was a caring and loving grandmother. In quiet times, she enjoyed spending hours in her gardens and listening to classical music. She was also an accomplished painter and talented poet. Throughout her time, Johanna was a proud, independent spirit, and had a wonderful sense of humour. Her fierce determination afforded her an additional 5 months beyond her expected prognosis.

Johanna's arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth, and cremation has taken place. Johanna and her family received friends at her living Celebration of Life Service held on June 11, 2016. If desired, donations to the Residential Hospice of Grey Bruce or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com
