Ethel Vickers

December 15, 1926 - October 1, 2016

Ethel Vickers (nee Badder), of Owen Sound, passed peacefully  October 1, with her adoring family at her side in her 90th year. Ethel now joins her late husband Stan who predeceased her in March of 2005. She is survived by  her loving children Elizabeth “Judy” Ius (Art), Linda Murray (Eddie) , Edward Vickers (Donna), and Richard Vickers (Brenda) and by her brother Dave Lesonsky and his wife Elaine. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren. Ethel was predeceased by her parents, siblings Arthur, Ernest, Helen, Grace, and Marie, and by two grandchildren.

Ethel was born in Windsor and married Stanley in 1945. Her children remember  her as a loving  but stern mother, a great cook whose specialty was meatloaf and a jellied carrot salad. On occasion, she would bring home several rabbits after hunting  with her .22, under the light of the full moon. She was an outstanding bowler and Scrabble player.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren baking. Ethel had fond memories of a trip to New York City which she won by selling subscriptions to the Sun-Times. She  enjoyed gardening: flowers and tomatoes would adorn her balcony in Hanover.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. Cremation has taken place and family and friends are gathering  at a graveside service for Ethel to be held  at the DURHAM CEMETERY, Durham, on Tuesday, October 11, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Michael Henkel officiating. A lunch reception will follow at Durham Legion.Donations to the charity of ones choice would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be expressed at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com.
Durham Cemetery is located o.5 km west of the village of Durham on the North side of Grey 4.
