Madonna Mary Currie
January 24, 1944 - February 8, 2017
Madonna Mary Currie (nee Corrigan) , of Williamsford, passed peacefully in her last moments at the age of 73 on February 8, 2017 with her loving husband by her side and adoring family with her during her last days. Madonna is survived by her husband of 22 years, John Currie, and their children Greg McKnight (Laura) of Brampton, Becky McKnight (Jacques) of Montreal, Heather Currie of Brampton, and Karen Gallagher of Wasaga Beach. She will be fondly remembered by her six grandchildren: Spencer, Melissa, Jeremy, Jessie, Holly and Amy. She also leaves behind her beloved sister Bernadette Baird (Bob) of Shelburne, sister-in-laws (Barbara, Karen, and Arlene McKnight, and Mary McIntaggart-Ross), as well as many loving nieces/nephews and grand nieces/nephews. Madonna was predeceased by her youngest son Bradley, son-in-law Mark, her parents Edmund and Marie Corrigan, and her dearly departed siblings Kathy, John, Gerry and Ellen.
Madonna was a strong, intelligent, and beautiful woman with an incredible heart and wonderful sense of humour. While her children were growing up, she was like an adopted mom to many of her children's friends and Townhouse Crescent neighbourhood children. Her independence and strength enabled her to work up to 2 or 3 jobs at a time to pay the rent and support her teenage children as a single mom. In her healthier years she enjoyed gardening, decorating (wallpapering and painting), and in later years enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, reading, birdwatching (She always saw seeing a cardinal as a sign of good luck and that all was okay.), playing cards (especially euchre) and Yahtzee when her children and grandchildren would visit. She fought like the tiger she was about twelve years ago to give her loved ones the gift of more wonderful years of her by their side, and now, another angel has earned her wings.
A Celebration for the life of Madonna Currie will be held at the GARAFRAXA HILL FUNERAL HOME, Chatsworth, on Saturday, February 18, at 11:00 am, Pastor Michael Henkel officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Funeral Home reception area following the service. Donations to the Canadian Lung Association or the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be expressed at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com.
