Remembering Josef  (John) Fleischmann

From: Ian Witherow

Being neighbours and friends across the road for over 30 years gave my wife and I lots of time to chat and call John and Veronica good friends. I personally went to T Cat hockey with John a lot of times and not just home games but we drove to many away games, especially playoff hockey. We will miss those precious times. We bought cars from John and had most of our cars serviced by Saugeen Motors. So we definitely have good memories that will not fade.

From: Bill & Debbie (Weis) Eidt

Our deepest condolences to the family of John. Although we only met John a few years ago, there is a deep family connection as John's family took over the garage from my grandparents when they came to Durham. I have since formed a friendship with John & Veronica's daughter, also Debbie, as the garage was the birthplace of both of us. I will miss hearing John's stories both of the garage history and of his life history. Rest In Peace, Josef. You deserve it.

Debbie, Susan, Veronica. Such lovely memories I have of your quiet father, having spent so much time in your house in those wonderful growing up years. The day he carried me home after I had been struck by a thrown rock on our way home from school. The day he noted me singing the Ford jingle and the peculiar look on his face on hearing it. Remember the time, it was twilight, and we pretended to drive a new and luxurious Oldsmobile, 8 track tape playing big band, we were seeing the world in our eyes. Seems I never got in trouble for our antics but I think Debbie you might have :-) Truth is, much of his quiet words in the accent were lost on me and I thought him a bit of mystery. But we were always so welcome in your home, safe to misbehave in a safe place. I was lucky to grow up across the road from such a great household. My love to you all.
