William "Bill" Wallace Kuglin

October 8, 1935  -  November 10, 2017

William “Bill” Wallace Kuglin, of Chatsworth passed peacefully, at Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound, on Friday November 10, 2017, in his 83rd year. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen (Batterman), their daughter Janice (Adam) Gateman of Chatsworth, and son Mark (Tina) of Owen Sound. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kristopher Gateman of Windsor, Braden Gateman of Guelph, and Mackenzie Kuglin of Owen Sound. He is survived by brothers Dennis (Jean) of Owen Sound, Tom (Margaret) of Chatsworth, Joseph of Elora, sister Helen Homan of Durham, and sisters-in-law Gwen Kuglin of Saskatchewan and Shirley Lyford of Belleville. Bill was predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Thelma (Liscombe) Kuglin, brothers Basil (Alison) and Rev. Robert Kuglin, sister Ilean (Capt. Kenn) Austin, sisters-in-law Mary Kuglin and Lorena Batterman, and brothers-in-law Harvey Homan, and Allan Batterman. Lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews, the Batterman families: Wayne (Mary), Maurice (Gwen), June, and dear friend Elda Mae Routenburg and family.

Throughout his life, Bill was known as a quiet and hard working man. Even at the young age of 15, he was already working as a merchant seaman. One of his favourite jobs was as a station agent for  CP Railways for 14 years, doing Morse code transmissions. Many will also remember him as a talented carpenter; building homes and renovating cottages and preparing them for winter. A loving family man, who adored his grandchildren, he could be often be found coaching baseball and especially hockey, as he was also a talented player himself, donning the colours of the Williamsford Wolves in the late fifties. Faith and community service were important to Bill. He served on both church and Sullivan Township councils, and even until this spring was a Community Club chairman. All who knew Bill will miss the great listener, the intelligent quick wit, and the fighting spirit that inspired them. His family, including Louigi, his little Jack Russell Pug, will also miss the calls of “Here comes 'da Judge” when he entered the room.

Visitation will be held at the GARAFRAXA HILL FUNERAL HOME, Chatsworth, on Monday November 13, from 6:00 - 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church, Willamsford, on Tuesday November 14, at 2:00 pm, Pastor Darlyne Rath officiating. If desired, donations to St. James Lutheran Church or South Bruce Grey Health Centre Chesley, would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be expressed at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com.
