Grant Neil McKay
March 26, 1961 - December 31, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Grant Neil McKay, in his 65th year, at his home in Lakefield, Ontario, on the morning of December 31, 2025. Grant was a devoted son, brother, and uncle who was deeply loved by all who knew him. He loved playing hockey and baseball in his younger years which carried on well into his adult life. Grant treasured his many Owen Sound high school friends and was well known as a popular member of the Baltistoes, the Ringsting Inn, the Bagshot and often seen cruising in his iconic Datsun 240Z. He attended Trent University, where he received his BA in Economics and he formed lasting friendships with a close-knit group affectionately known as “The Lads,” who became his life-long friends. He will be missed by his many friends formed in Lakefield and Peterborough developed over his years of living and working in the area. Grant loved his loud music, he was a fantastic cook and an avid reader, often with several books on the go at once. He spent many years running his company, GMAC Aluminum & Construction, taking great pride in helping others with home building and commercial renovations. Known for his quick wit and sharp comebacks, Grant’s humour and personality left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He is lovingly remembered by his parents, Neil and Doreen McKay of Chatsworth; his sisters, Lori Schwengers (Ralph) and Heather Mill (Brian), both of Owen Sound; and his adored nephew, Connor Mill. Grant was predeceased by his beloved sister, Sherry Davey. He will also be deeply missed by his loyal four-legged companion, Rebel.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. A Celebration of Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, January 10th, with drop-in between 2-4 pm. If desired, memorial donations to the Grey Bruce Animal Shelter or Grey Bruce Hospice (Chapman House), would be appreciated by the family.
