Edward 'Ted' Gordon Mustard
August 12, 1943 - May 20, 2025
Surrounded by his family, 'Ted' Mustard of Chatsworth, passed peacefully at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound, on Tuesday May 20, 2025, at age 81. Cherished husband of the late Shirley Marie Mustard (nee Taylor) who predeceased him in 2007. Loving father of Ed Mustard (Candace Ellis) of Chatsworth, Becky Rands (Richard) of Walters Falls, and Trevor Mustard (Charlene) of Ayton. Proud grandfather of Tyler, Kaylin, Dylan, Alyssa, Blake, Avery, Reese, Sofia, Jaxon, and Brice, and great-grandpa of Aislyn. Ted will be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends in the community. He was predeceased by his parents Gibson Alexander and Jean Elizabeth Mustard (nee Slight).
Ted devoted his life to farming—a calling not just of labour, but of patience, care, and resilience. Through early mornings, changing seasons, and countless harvests, he worked the land with steady hands and an unwavering heart. His was an honest life, lived close to the earth and guided by the values that endure: responsibility, humility, and perseverance.
It was at the Chatsworth Hotel where fate smiled upon Ted and he met Shirley, the woman who would become his beloved wife and steadfast partner. Their love was a quiet, enduring bond—a shared life of purpose and deep devotion. Together they raised three children, instilling in them the same values that shaped their own lives: integrity, kindness, and the importance of family.
Though Shirley passed in 2007, her memory remained ever-present in Ted’s heart. He carried her with him in every story, every quiet moment, every tender glance toward the past. Their partnership was the foundation of a family that continues to grow and thrive because of the love and example they both set.
Ted spent his life deeply connected to the land—not just in work, but in spirit. For over 40 years, he served as an equipment operator at Torrie Farms, working the fields with dedication, skill, and pride. He knew the rhythms of the earth and the hum of the machinery.
Ted was a man of simple, honest pleasures. He and Shirley enjoyed playing cards with Bill and Lola Neelands, sharing laughter and friendly rivalry. A loyal Toronto Blue Jays fan, he rarely missed a game on TV, cheering with quiet hope through every season. He also had a deep love for the outdoors, keeping his lawn pristine, and spending time hunting and trapping, immersed in the stillness and beauty of nature—a part of his life that reflected his respect for tradition, patience, and the natural world.
At the heart of it all was Ted’s family, especially his grandchildren, who brought him great joy. His home was the gathering place for holiday dinners, filled with good food, laughter, and the comfort of being together. He was patient, easy going, and laid back. His legacy isn’t written in grand gestures, but in the everyday moments that made people feel seen, safe, and loved.
Rest peacefully, Ted. You lived with honour, worked with pride, and loved with all your heart. The land you walked, the lives you touched, and the family you built will carry your memory forward—always.
Cremation has taken place and arrangements entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. A Celebration of Life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 11:30am – 3:30pm. Interment to follow at McLeans Cemetery, Bognor.
