Dennis Elmer Kuglin
October 18, 1927 - December 8, 2023

With great sadness, the family of Dennis Kuglin, formerly of Williamsford, announce his passing at Southbridge LTC in Owen Sound, on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the age of 96. Loving husband of nearly 75 years of Jean Elizabeth Kuglin (nee McEwen). Dear father of Gerald Dennis Kuglin of Fergus, Bradley James Kuglin (Marlene) of Sarnia and Deborah Denise Treadwell (Bruce) of Dresden. Proud grandfather of Benjamin Kuglin (Mischa), Marina Kuglin, Claire Ellis (Jamie), Gord Kuglin, Steve Kuglin (Cindy) and Jenna Kuglin (Corey Bowers). Great-grandpa of Austin, Mason, Maddy, Evan, Tucker, Corb, Ivy and Everley. Survived by his siblings Helen Holman, Joseph Kuglin, and Tom Kuglin (Margaret), and in-laws Gwen Kuglin and Helen Kuglin. Predeceased by his siblings Basil Kuglin (Alison), Robert Kuglin, Ilene Austin (Ken), Bill Kuglin, parents Lloyd and Thelma Kuglin (nee Liston) and in-laws Harvey Holman and Mary Kuglin. Fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews and neighbours.

Dennis was born in Williamsford and after leaving school, headed for work on the merchant ships sailing the Great Lakes; for the Hyman Company of Owen Sound and also for Imperial Oil of Sarnia. After four years on the water, he and Jean married in Owen Sound at Morrisons Inn, just a few weeks shy of 75 years ago.  Realizing he preferred the more stable home life, he jumped off the boat at the refinery dock in Sarnia and applied for a position at the Sarnia Fire Department, where he retired as Captain, after a 35 year career. Dennis and Jean were active in the Sarnia community, becoming leaders of the local Scout and Brownie packs, and supporting their kids in local hockey. Dennis also enjoyed  baseball, curling and snowmobiling where Dennis was member of the Tobermory Snowmobile Club, and he was also a member of the Sydenham Sportsman Association of Owen Sound.  In later years, he would build a log home in Johnson Harbour which took 5 years to complete. When not working, he and Jean could often be found at local dances and jamborees in Bognor and Wiarton. This accomplished and loving family man will be truly missed.

Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth. If desired, donations to the Chatsworth Community HUB Campaign would be appreciated by the family. Condolences may be expressed online at www.garafraxahillfuneral.com
