With his loving family by his side, Chatsworth resident Clarence Ronald Irvine passed peacefully at Brightshores Health Systems- Owen Sound, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, in his 91st year. Ron was the beloved husband of 66 years to Jeannette Marie Irvine (nee Sword). Dear father of Terry Irvine (Susan McAuley) of Ingersoll, Ronda Couture (Paul) of Owen Sound, and Stephen Irvine (Jane) of Waubaushene. Proud grandfather of William, Teagan, Danielle (Alora), Max, Kiley, and Jacob, and great-grandpa of Jaxon.

 

Ron is survived by his sister Joan Hollis, and in-laws, Betty Morrison, George Sword (Pat), and Susan Oinonen (Dan). Predeceased by his brothers John and twin Don Irvine, parents Stanley and Ellen Irvine (nee Grasley), and by his in-laws Marilyn Irvine, Irvine Hollis, Joan Byers (Raymond), Carmen Sword (Jane) and Wayne Morrison. He will be forever remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and friends in the community.

 

Ron was a man whose life was rooted in one place, but whose spirit was never confined by it.

For all of his ninety years, Ron called the family farm home. The fields, barns, animals, and familiar countryside were woven into the fabric of his life. He knew the value of hard work and approached every day with quiet determination, never seeking recognition, simply doing what needed to be done.

Yet despite spending his life on the same farm, Ron was an adventurer at heart. He was always eager to experience something new, whether it was joining family scuba diving trips to Quebec, spending time on the water, or meeting the many friends and university students who found their way to the farm through his family. He welcomed people easily, enjoyed good company, and took genuine interest in those around him.

At the center of Ron's life was his beloved wife, Jeannette. For more than sixty-six years they shared a partnership built on love, devotion, and countless memories. Together they faced life's challenges, celebrated its joys, and created a home filled with warmth and kindness.

Ron was a gifted mechanic with an extraordinary ability to fix almost anything. If something was broken, he would patiently study it until he understood how it worked and how to make it right again. One of the family's favourite memories is of Ron and Jeannette completely dismantling a tractor down to its chassis and rebuilding it piece by piece. It was a perfect example of their teamwork, determination, and practical skill.

Teaching those mechanical talents did not always come naturally to him. In fact, the family jokes that Steve only learned to weld after first attempting to teach himself with an acetylene welder—an experience memorable for all the wrong reasons. But whether through lessons, examples, or simply watching him work, Ron passed along an appreciation for perseverance and problem-solving to those around him. He was also a man of many interests. In 1991, he took up rug hooking, discovering a creative side that brought him great enjoyment. His hands were just as comfortable creating something beautiful as they were repairing a machine.

Ron had a deep love for animals, especially dogs, cats, and horses. They were constant companions throughout his life and brought him great happiness. His gentle nature seemed to draw animals—and people—to him.

Ron believed in enjoying life's simple pleasures. He never passed up an opportunity to gather around a card table with family and friends, where conversation, laughter, and a little friendly competition were always welcome. He also had a well-known sweet tooth. Baked goods and desserts were among his favourite treats, and he was never shy about enjoying an extra helping when something delicious was on the table. Whether sharing a game of cards, a family meal, or a homemade dessert, Ron found joy in the moments that brought people together.

Most of all, Ron loved his family. He cherished family gatherings, holidays, and the simple joy of being together. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren, creating memories that live on through countless photographs and stories. His family remembers his good laugh, his welcoming spirit, and perhaps most remarkably, that he never seemed to have a harsh word to say about anyone.

In a world that often moves too quickly, Ron's life reminds us of the value of kindness, loyalty, hard work, and love. He showed that a person can live in the same place for ninety years and still possess the heart of an explorer. He built a life rich not in possessions, but in relationships, experiences, and quiet acts of goodness. The farm he loved will always hold traces of his presence. But his true legacy lives on in Jeannette, his children, grandchildren, friends, and all those fortunate enough to know him. And whenever we gather together, share a laugh, lend a helping hand, or take time to appreciate the simple blessings of life, we carry a little piece of Ron with us.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Garafraxa Hill Funeral Home, Chatsworth, Ontario. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 12:00pm, with a visitation 1hr. prior to the service, Michael Henkel officiating.
